SunTegra Solar Invests in Binghamton Economy

SunTegra Solar, a leading provider of solar roof systems, has relocated production to Binghamton, NY. The company has already began manufacturing of its solar shingle products at the new facility, which will also serve as a central hub for administration, sales, and R&D.

Upon relocation, SunTegra hired initial assembly and operations staff to restart production and plans to expand its team in the coming year as production ramps up to meet increasing demand for its aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional roof-mounted solar panels.

“We are delighted to be moving our business to the Binghamton area,” said Oliver Koehler, CEO. “Binghamton offers access to great technical expertise, has talented labor and features a robust network of regional suppliers. We see Binghamton as a great platform from which to grow our business nationally.”

The startup was the $500K prize recipient at the 2017 76West Clean Energy Competition, through which it initially learned about the entrepreneurial resources Binghamton offered, including the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator, which the company joined shortly after its 76West win.

“Bringing innovative companies to the Binghamton area is what the Koffman Southern Tier incubator is all about,” said Mike Jagielski, Clean Energy Program Director. “SunTegra’s patented solar roofing products offer consumers an alternative to bulky solar panels, compete head-to-head with Tesla’s solar roof products and are the type of technology that will help clean energy go mainstream.”
